School Campus goes solar and receives ZERO electricity bills

Location: Chicalim, Vasco

Size: 38 kW solar power system

Components: 335 Wp panels, Inverter, Full Rail Aluminium Structure

Completion date: January 2022

Spread across 40,000 sq meters, the elite educational institution in Vasco, Goa, is flanked by the Zuari river on the North, Mormugao harbor on the west, and the Arabian sea on the south. The ginormous campus has several buildings, such as management quarters, primary school, and secondary school sections. All the buildings have different meters, which are grouped to offset the cumulative electricity bills. This technique is called Group Metering.

The classrooms, staff room, library, science, and computer labs are all powered by a 38 KW solar power plant installed by SUN360. Solar panels are installed over metal sheets using anti-corrosive anodized aluminum structures that can withstand wind speeds up to 150 kmph. The solar initiative benefits 2500 students in the school, who also have the opportunity to see the plant in action.

Some of the key benefits of the solar power system are:

  • Zero electricity bills which enable INR 2.5 lakhs as an investment for other student-teacher activities.
  • Subsidy of INR 5.6 lakhs.
  • The annual energy yield of the solar power plant is more than 52,000.
  • The school offsets over 39 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide annually. It is a green moment for every student as they contribute towards mother nature as the carbon not emitted is equivalent to planting 1710 trees.

The solar power plant installed in the campus had made the school a flagbearer of sustainable living in the Vasco-da-Gama neighborhood.
