Nested in Goa’s legislative and executive capital is a small village with beautiful scenery and peaceful surroundings. The village panchayat provides the best amenities for all the residents. It has a scenic children’s parks equipped with fun sports and activities. Sports enthusiasts practice badminton and football at the badminton court and football ground. They have shops for commercial purposes and a grand hall for hosting events on special occasions. The villagers book the hall for hosting wedding receptions, birthday parties, celebrating communion, and christening.
Besides providing spaces for commercial use, the football ground, badminton court, and children’s park are for public use and are major power guzzlers for the panchayat. Thus, the panchayat members decided to offset the electricity consumption by adopting solar.
SUN360 designed a full rail flush-mounted system on the metal sheet roof facing the south to capture solar energy. In the project, the team installed a 30 kW solar power plant. They set up Waaree 445 Wp Monocrystalline Passivation Emitter Rear Contact (Mono PERC) panels along the full rail structure. Over 68 solar panels were connected to the 30 kW Goodwe inverter. The high-efficiency panels with half-cut cells for better power output during shaded conditions. To service and maintain the solar panels, slip-resistant FRP walkWays were set up between the array of solar panels. The lightweight walkWays protect the roof sheets from any damage.
Today with the installation of a 30 kW solar power plant, the panchayat is saving a lump sum of over INR 2 lakhs annually. It has also reduced its carbon footprint equivalent to planting over 1380 trees. The village panchayat is playing a major role in leading the green movement amongst the village residents. The community takes immense pride in hosting green weddings, birthday celebrations, and other cultural and sports activities.
