Mr. Serrao lives by the sea in the coastal area of Colva. He is the proud owner of three charming guest houses located in the picturesque scenery. His guest houses are visited by hundreds of guests every year. Over time, he realized that he was incurring huge electricity costs from the guest houses, and it was the same concerning his luxurious home.

Mr. Serrao decided to leap into green energy by adopting solar, so he approached SUN360 to monetize all the rooftops. The major concern was that two of his guest houses had small roof spaces that couldn’t accommodate the installation of solar panels. The team inspected the area and decided to install the solar panels on the third guest house with a much larger roof space. Team SUN360 designed a south-facing rooftop for the guesthouse and suggested Mr. Serrao leverage the benefits of group metering.

They used a full-rail aluminum structure to affix the panels on the metal sheet roof. Over eighty-eight Vikram 370 Wp solar panels and seventy-seven Waaree 370 Wp solar panels were installed for his house and guest house. These panels were connected to the 27.6 kW Solaredge inverter with the Solaredge optimizer system. The highly efficient solaredge optimizers prove to be cost-effective solutions for residential installations. The optimizers determine the DC power generated by individual panels and protect the array of panels during the shading of a few individual panels.

The electricity meters in Mr. Serrao’s home and his guest house are under the same name. By installing solar power plants, he takes advantage of group metering. For the excess energy delivered to the grid, Mr. Serrao is not charged any bills for every meter under his name. Moreover, he has also received a subsidy from the government for providing units to the grid. With the solar power plants, Mr. Serrao saves almost INR 5 lakh annually on electricity bills. He has set an example for the Goans in his neighborhood and takes pride in going green.
